Thumb Screws & Fasteners

Thumb screws are designed for easy, one-handed operation, making them ideal for applications where frequent adjustments are needed, such as access panels.

These machined fasteners fit into pre-drilled, tapped holes and are tightened by hand. Featuring metal threads made of stainless or alloy steel, thumb screws come with a head made of metal or nylon. Common head types include plain, hex socket, and plastic round heads:

  • Plain Head: Flat with a knurled surface for better grip.
  • Hex Socket Head: Raised, knurled head with a recessed hex socket for hand or hex wrench use, allowing higher torque.

Thumb screws are perfect for electronics and equipment covers due to their durability and ease of installation. They are more resistant to stripping and breaking compared to other fasteners.

Common Applications

  • Electronic device covers
  • Battery covers
  • Communications equipment
  • Machinery panels
  • Safety guards

Additional Features

Many thumb screws include a synthetic polymer washer at the top of the threaded shaft, which protects surfaces from scratches and dulling, especially on anodized aluminum.

These screws are now standard with all new Cisco equipment purchased.

Knurled Thumb Screws with Washer Face

Knurled round head thumb screws are ideal for tool-free installation and removal, thanks to the knurled surface for a secure grip. The oval-shaped head distributes pressure evenly, reducing the risk of damage.
