For over 95 years, Burndy has provided reliable connection systems and solutions across multiple industries, consistently delivering exceptional customer support, innovative products, and the highest standards of quality. Their product range includes connectors for splicing, tapping, terminating, conducting, or grounding, all supported by system-designed tools for precise application. With advanced manufacturing technology and engineering expertise, Burndy can design and produce custom connectors to address specific application needs.
Burndy Electrical Connectors
Burndy produces a wide range of electrical connectors, including those for wiring and cable applications. These connectors are coupling devices that join electrical terminations to form a complete circuit. Burndy’s extensive portfolio of electrical connectors is designed and manufactured to reliably transmit data, power, and signals, even in the harshest environments and under the most extreme conditions.
HYLUG™ Uninsulated Copper Compression Terminals
BURNDY’s HYLUG™ terminals, including types YA, YA-TC, YA-L, YA-L-TC, YA-2N, YA-2TC, YA-L-TC-FX, YA-L-2TC, and YA-2LN, are designed for terminating copper conductors in various electrical applications, from heavy-duty industrial to telecommunications. These terminals offer simple cable preparation, resulting in easily installed, permanent, and inspectable terminations. UL listed and CSA certified to 600 volts (UL STD. 486A), HYLUG™ terminals can be used in applications up to 35kV with the correct tool and die combination.
Key Features and Benefits:
- High Conductivity Copper: Made from seamless, high-conductivity electrolytic copper tubing with heavy-duty walls, ensuring maximum conductivity, low resistance, and excellent crimping properties.
- Precision Fit: Barrel diameters match commercial and Navy cable sizes, providing a high-quality electrical connection with recommended tooling.
- Corrosion Resistance: Electro-tin plated, lead-plated, or BURNDY’s proprietary brite finish for long-lasting durability.
- Ease of Installation: Internally beveled barrel ends allow easy cable insertion. Markings for wire size, die index, and crimp locations ensure proper installation.
- High Voltage Compatibility: Suitable for applications up to 35kV.
- Flexibility: Expanded wire ranges are possible with the Y644 HYPRESS™ Dieless “1” Crimp, facilitating emergency repairs when connector and wire sizes differ.
- Inspectability: Hydraulic and battery tooling crimp embossment provides a permanent die index number for inspection.
Compression Connectors
BURNDY’s compression connectors are engineered for reliable, inspectable electrical connections. Made from high-conductivity electrolytic copper, these connectors operate cooler than the wire they are installed on, withstanding electrical surges, temperature variations, corrosion, and vibrations. Designed to match cable sizes, these connectors ensure strong, durable electrical performance at a low installed cost.
Copper Compression Connectors:
- Material: Manufactured from high-conductivity electrolytic copper and typically tin-plated, lead-plated, or finished with BURNDY’s proprietary brite finish for corrosion resistance.
- Design: Matched to cable size to provide necessary physical strength for reliable performance.
Aluminum Compression Connectors:
- Material: Made from high-purity wrought aluminum, electro-tin plated to reduce corrosion from galvanic action between dissimilar metals. Barrels are pre-filled with PENETROX®, an oxide-inhibiting compound that ensures excellent continuity between wire strands and the connector barrel.
Selection and Use:
- Copper Connectors: Recommended for copper conductors.
- Aluminum Connectors: Recommended for aluminum conductors. Dual-rated aluminum connectors can be used for both copper and aluminum conductors.
- Compression Designs: Available in circumferential and indent types.
Industry Standards Compliance
BURNDY’s compression terminals, splices, and tap connectors meet various industry standards, including UL listings, CSA approvals, and MIL-T-7928 military standards. Additionally, some connectors and splices are certified for critical nuclear utility applications, conforming to IEEE standards 323, 383, and 344, and complying with 10CFR50 and 10CFR21 requirements.
