FFC / FPC

FFC connectors are designed to connect ribbon-type flat flexible cables (FFCs) to PCB circuitry in cable-to-board applications, and can also be configured for cable-to-cable connections. These connectors are known for their high-density, compact design, making them ideal for use in tight spaces. Commonly found in consumer electronics such as laptops, cameras, computer peripherals, appliances, and smartphones, they typically feature a single or double-row housing made from flexible plastics, polymers, engineered rubber, or film, which surrounds an embedded metal connector. Various locking mechanisms are available for secure connections.

FPC connectors, on the other hand, are used to connect flexible printed cables (FPCs) to printed circuit boards (PCBs). FPCs are a type of FFC where the conductors are printed directly on the cable substrate, as opposed to being embedded within it. These connectors, sometimes referred to as ribbon connectors, allow for easy insertion of the flexible printed circuit directly into the connector for secure connection.

In essence, both FPC and FFC connectors serve as crucial components in connecting flexible circuits to PCBs, with FPC connectors specifically designed for circuits where the conductors are printed rather than embedded.
