Amtek IDC Sockets
Quick Overview
Amtek offers a diverse range of IDC connectors, including sockets and headers with pin counts ranging from 8 to 64 positions, available with either tin or gold contact finishes. These connectors feature strain relief, polarizing keys, and eject hooks, and are available in free-hanging or panel mount options. IDC D-sub and DIP connectors are also part of our product lineup.
Details
Amtek’s board-to-wire connectors provide essential connectivity between wires and printed circuit boards (PCBs), offering robust, modular, and compact solutions designed to meet the growing demands of our customers.
IDC stands for Insulation-Displacement Connector. These connectors are designed for ribbon cables and telecommunications applications and are also known as insulation-piercing contacts (IPCs).
Key Features:
- Available in multiple pin counts
- Standard 0.1″ pin spacing
- Insulation displacement design for quick assembly
- UL94-V0 plastic material
- Complete with strain relief
These connectors are compatible with any standard 0.1″ spaced dual-row pin headers. The IDC contacts enable rapid crimping onto flat ribbon cables. These female sockets connect to male pin headers and feature a polarizing tab to ensure proper alignment when used with shrouded headers (“box headers”). Crimping the ribbon cable into the IDC connector can be done using various methods and dedicated tools designed for different volume and budgetary needs. For those not opting for dedicated tooling, a small bench vise or arbor press can also be used to reliably crimp the connector onto the cable.
IDC Socket Connectors: Linking Ribbon Cables to Computer Hardware
Amtek manufactures IDC connectors, including D-sub flat cable-style and dual-row female sockets, designed to link ribbon cables to computer hardware. These connectors cold-weld to the wire, ensuring a long-lasting, highly reliable gas-tight connection. Ideal for low-current applications such as telecoms, networking, and signal connections between electronic or computer system components, Amtek’s IDC connectors offer exceptional value, with additional savings available when purchased in bulk. These connectors are suitable for both internal device connections and connections between devices, providing a versatile solution for various applications.
Insulation displacement connectors (IDC) are perfect for device manufacturers needing to connect two or more PCBs over longer distances. When standard mezzanine or mother/daughter card arrangements are insufficient, IDC connectors deliver reliable connectivity via ribbon cables.
Featured Products
Amtek’s Flat Cable DIP plugs are a one-piece connector system designed for quick and easy mass termination of flat cables, which can then be mounted directly to the PCB or PCB socket. These connectors are ideal for interconnecting PCBs in permanent flat cable transitions or for applications requiring disconnects. The low-profile design allows for increased board-to-board stacking density.
