Sensata Technologies is a global leader and early innovator in mission-critical sensors and electrical protection. With two major global business units, Sensata operates sales offices worldwide and business and manufacturing centers in nine countries. The company specializes in designing, manufacturing, and marketing electromechanical and electronic sensors and controls through its two segments: Performance Sensing and Sensing Solutions. Founded in 1916 and headquartered in Attleboro, MA, Sensata has a long history of innovation and excellence.
The Performance Sensing segment focuses on sensors for the automotive, heavy vehicle, and off-road markets, while the Sensing Solutions segment designs and manufactures a wide range of sensor and control products. Sensata’s highly engineered devices meet the increasing global demand for safety, energy efficiency, and environmental sustainability. These devices enhance safety, efficiency, and comfort for millions of people daily, and are used in applications spanning automotive, appliances, aircraft, industrial, military, heavy vehicles, heating, air conditioning, data, telecommunications, recreational vehicles, and marine environments.
In April 2006, Sensata became an independent entity following its sale by Texas Instruments to Bain Capital. Subsequent acquisitions included First Technology Automotive and Special Products from Honeywell in November 2006, SMaL Camera from Cypress Semiconductor in March 2007, and Airpax Holdings, Inc. in July 2007. Sensata sold the SMaL Camera business to Melexis in 2009 and successfully completed its initial public offering in 2010. Notable past acquisitions also include Airpax, Klixon, Magnum, Qinex, and Schrader, further strengthening Sensata’s position as a leading provider of sensor and control solutions.
